Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has said his team were never close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.
The 37-year-old attempted to force an exit from Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.
Napoli were raised as a potential suitor, however Giuntoli says that was never the case.
He told CBS Sports: "There was nothing true.
"We have an excellent relationship with Mendes, but there was nothing concrete. I am sorry to say we have never been in real negotiations with Manchester United."
