THE Department of Agriculture (DA) on Monday said it has provided P40.95 million worth of farm assistance and irrigation infrastructure to boost productivity in Nasugbu, Batangas.
The package includes a P29.8-million solar-powered irrigation system inaugurated Oct. 9, alongside the distribution of farm aid by the DA’s Calabarzon regional office and attached agencies in Barangay Looc.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., who led the activity, said the assistance covers rice, corn, high-value crops, coconut production, farm mechanization and urban agriculture.
The irrigation system, implemented through the Bureau of Soils and Water Management, is expected to provide a more reliable water supply, lower fuel costs, and reduce farmers’ reliance on conventional power sources.
The DA said the facility addresses a major constraint to farm productivity in the coastal town: limited access to irrigation.
Other allocations included P6.2 million for the rice program; P2.1 million for mechanization through the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization; P1.2 million for the corn program; and P1.1 million for coconut farmers through the Philippine Coconut Authority.
The package also included P545,000 for high-value crops and P62,500 for the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program.
The DA said the assistance combines immediate production support with infrastructure investments to strengthen farm livelihoods and improve productivity over the longer term.
