KUALA LUMPUR: The National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) will operate as an official institution on July 28, enabling it to oversee and coordinate the development and governance of AI in Malaysia.
“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has set the date of July 28 to transform the NAIO into an official institution,” said Digital Minister, Gobind Singh Deo.
“NAIO will be an institution focusing on policy, governance, and AI ecosystem development, besides helping to nurture talent and individuals capable of developing AI technology to realise Malaysia’s vision of becoming an AI Nation by 2030.”
He said this after launching the Digital Realty Multi-Site Data Centre here today.
Meanwhile, Gobind said the government is still reviewing regulatory and governance aspects in its efforts to develop the AI Governance Framework.
“Currently, there is a department within the NAIO that is drafting the framework. We have also established a standards office that will be part of the NAIO in Cyberjaya,” he said.
NAIO was launched on Dec 12, 2024, demonstrating Malaysia’s commitment to emerging as a leader in artificial intelligence and digital transformation within Southeast Asia.
