A National Lok Adalat is being organised on May 9 under the guidance of Priya Sood, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) here.

The Lok Adalat will be held in the judicial courts of Jalandhar, Nakodar and Phillaur to resolve pending civil and compoundable criminal cases, as well as pre-litigate cases from institutions such as banks, the electricity department and financial institutions through mutual settlement.

Chairperson DLSA stated that a total of 25 benches had been constituted, including 21 benches for Jalandhar and two benches each for Phillaur and Nakodar. The Lok Adalat will hear matters related to civil disputes, matrimonial disputes, Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) cases, check bounce cases (NI Act), Traffic Challans and compoundable criminal offenses.

She emphasised that the decision of the Lok Adalat is final and binding and no appeal could be filed against it in any court. Rahul Kumar Azad, CJM-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Jalandhar, conducted meetings with bank officials and insurance company representatives at the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre, District Courts, Jalandhar.

He urged officials from banks, mobile companies, and insurance firms to resolve maximum pending court cases through mutual settlement and refer pre-litigate cases (disputes not yet filed in court) for settlement to ensure they can be disposed of during the National Lok Adalat on May 9.

Chairperson DLSA said that citizens were encouraged to submit an application to the concerned court if they wished to settle their pending legal matters through the National Lok Adalat.
