The nation was struck with grief on April 23 when a tragic accident occurred at the Lumut Naval Base during a parade celebrating the 90th Anniversary of the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM). The incident resulted in the loss of 10 lives, including seven members of the Maritime Operations Helicopter (HOM) and three Fennec crew members.
Defense Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin shared the somber news that all the victims were under the age of 40. Among those lost was Leading Seaman JJM Joanna Felicia Rohna, a dedicated member of the M503-3 HOM aircraft team.
A Mother's Love and Legacy
Joanna's passing brought attention to her impactful life, as a Facebook post she shared on July 12, 2023, went viral. In the post, she expressed deep emotions towards her eldest child, highlighting the child as her source of strength and resilience.

Towards the end of the post, Joanna’s tone shifted to a haunting premonition of her own passing. She urged her child to remember her words in case she left this world too soon.
"One day when I'm gone and you remember me as a strict mother, then read this, my child. Regardless of what the world may say, you will always be my first love, forever. A warm embrace from your imperfect mother," she wrote.
