In an exciting announcement, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong revealed the ambitious target of 150,000 enrolments for the upcoming National Training Week 2024 (NTW 2024). Spearheaded by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), this week-long event is scheduled to take place from June 24 to June 30, promising a diverse range of training opportunities.
Last year's one-week programme left a lasting impact with over 129,000 Malaysians participating in various training courses, accumulating an impressive 500,000 training hours. Minister Steven Sim expressed optimism about surpassing these numbers this year, emphasizing the transformative potential of the NTW.
What sets NTW 2024 apart is its inclusivity, welcoming not only civil servants but also individuals interested in training related to artificial intelligence (AI) and the digital economy sector. Minister Sim highlighted the unique approach of HRD Corp in providing free training to all Malaysians, irrespective of whether their respective companies pay the training levy or not. This move aims to tap into the vast market potential, reaching out to the approximately 80,000 SMEs in Malaysia that can afford the levy out of the 1.2 million existing SMEs.
Speaking at the pre-launch ceremony of NTW 2024, Minister Sim expressed his vision of this year's event acting as a "launch pad" to elevate the credibility of training providers in Malaysia to international standards. He emphasized the existing ecosystem, boasting world-class industrial companies (MNCs) and skilled employees, suggesting that Malaysia could become a global training hub. Minister Sim outlined the aspiration to attract international trainees and students to Malaysia for world-class training.
NTW 2024 is set to offer a staggering 25,000 training modules across various fields, catering to all age groups. What's even more remarkable is that these modules, valued at RM200 million, will be fully funded by the training industry, making them accessible to all participants free of charge.
As the Human Resources Ministry gears up for NTW 2024, the overarching goal is not only to increase the number of participants but also to establish Malaysia as a hub for high-quality training. With an eye on the future, Minister Steven Sim envisions a Malaysia where training centers achieve global recognition and attract learners from around the world.
In conclusion, National Training Week 2024 appears to be a game-changer, breaking barriers and democratizing access to valuable training opportunities. As the nation strives for excellence, the event holds the promise of not only empowering Malaysians but also positioning Malaysia as a key player in the international training arena.
