NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has arrived in Kiev, days after another deadly major Russian missile and drone attack on the Ukrainian capital and other parts of the country.
Rutte is accompanied by the ambassadors of the alliance's member states, his spokeswoman told dpa on Wednesday.
Ambassadors to NATO form the North Atlantic Council, which is NATO’s highest political decision-making body and usually meets at least once a week in Brussels.
Pictures in Ukrainian media showed Rutte stepping off a night train at the station in Kiev.
For security reasons, the spokeswoman for the NATO chief declined to comment on the exact itinerary of the visit.
Rutte has visited Kiev on several occasions in the past to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky and other politicians.
NATO is currently supporting Ukraine through the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List, the so-called PURL programme.
The initiative involves ammunition and weapons manufactured in the United States being sold to European allies and Canada who then make them available to Ukraine.
