THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources-National Capital Region (DENR-NCR) has conferred the Green Legacy Award on Navotas City in recognition of its continuous contribution and partnership in advancing environmental protection and implementing restoration programs.
Elated by the latest recognition, Mayor John Rey Tiangco cited the importance of shared responsibility in environmental protection.
“We are grateful to DENR–NCR for honoring Navotas as a Green Legacy Award inductee. This recognition highlights the collective efforts of our city government and our communities in protecting the environment, particularly in coastal and urban management and solid waste initiatives,” he said.
The Green Legacy Awards is given to institutions, communities and sectors that have proven to be strong partners of DENR-NCR in promoting environmental care, management and restoration of natural resources across Metro Manila.
DENR-NCR recognized the city’s Environment and Natural Resources Office as one of the inductees of the Green Legacy Awards for its ongoing contributions and collaboration in implementing environmental programs, particularly in coastal and urban environmental management, solid waste management and community engagement.
“We continue to urge all Navoteños to support the efforts by practicing proper waste segregation and disposing of waste at the proper time,” the city chief executive said.
The local government said it has been strengthening its environmental initiatives through regular coastal cleanup and community-based environmental programs.
Among its key projects is the establishment of the Greenhouse and the Materials Recovery Facility in Barangay Tanza 2, which supports proper waste segregation, recycling and sustainable waste management, it added.
