Nawanshahr DC Gulpreet Singh Aulakh today said the district has secured the 7th rank in Punjab for pre-SIR activities, successfully verifying 88 per cent of the district’s electorate.

Addressing a press conference following an all-party meeting, Aulakh confirmed that the formal Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will commence on June 25 and continue till July 24.

The DC also highlighted the district’s proactive approach, noting that only 12 per cent of the voter verification remains pending now. To ensure a seamless and transparent process, the district administration has deployed a robust field force of 615 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) along with 62 supervisors, overseen by three Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and three Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).

“Our BLOs will conduct house-to-house visits to distribute forms for voter verification, corrections and the removal of discrepancies," The DC stated. He emphasised that while the district administration is leading the entire exercise, political parties have been urged to appoint representatives to assist in finalising valid lists.

Addressing concerns over documentation, the DC clarified that while the 2003 voter lists serve as a mapping reference, citizens lacking specific records can provide alternative documents belonging to parents or grandparents to establish residency. He urged the public to cooperate by filling forms promptly. The final electoral roll for the district is scheduled for publication on October 1 following a dedicated period for public objections and claims, he added.
