Police have identified a suspect linked to a Malaysian pilot accused of attempting to smuggle drugs into Indonesia and will record the individual’s statement soon.
SHAH ALAM: Police have identified an individual believed to be linked to the case of a Malaysian pilot suspected of smuggling ecstasy through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, Indonesia.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the individual, who is among the staff on duty at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), will be called in soon to record his statement.
“The individual is among the staff involved in screening at KLIA, we will call him for questioning and if necessary, we will make an arrest,” he said at the Selangor NCID media conference here today.
Hussein said initial investigations so far found that the suspect obtained the drugs at an apartment in Ampang, and investigations are focusing on various aspects including security at the airport entrance.
“The check also found that the suspect had come to KLIA in the morning and checked in the luggage containing the drugs and left it at KLIA before flying to Kota Kinabalu and turning back to Kuala Lumpur and leaving for Jakarta with the luggage involved,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hussein said his party was currently awaiting information from the Indonesian Republic Police (POLRI) to move its officers to the country for an interview session.
Previously, the media reported that a 39-year-old pilot was detained by Indonesian authorities at Terminal 3, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport after allegedly trying to smuggle 25 kilogrammes of drugs.
According to POLRI, the inspection found 15 packages containing 70,114 ecstasy and methamphetamine capsules estimated to be worth about RM45 million according to Indonesian market prices.
