KOTA KINABALU: The Home Ministry has foregone about RM714,000 in revenue after waiving the RM10 replacement fee for damaged MyKad, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said the waiver was introduced to help citizens, especially flood victims, who often lose their identification documents while fleeing their homes during disasters.

Saifuddin said nearly 10,000 people nationwide, including 817 in Sabah, had replaced their MyKad under the scheme, showing strong public awareness of the need for valid documents to access government benefits such as the Budi 95 fuel subsidy.

During his working visit to the Sabah Police Headquarters on Friday, Saifuddin also handed out cash aid and food supplies to 93 ministry staff and 20 flood evacuees, saying the ministry must balance enforcement with compassion.

He added that about 20,000 police personnel and all ministry assets were on standby ahead of the Northeast Monsoon, stressing that preparedness and empathy must guide government service delivery.
