
SANDAKAN: About 96.4 per cent of the agricultural census in the country has been achieved during the 93 days of the 2024 Agricultural Census conducted by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) since July 7.
Malaysia’s Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin, who is also the 2024 Agricultural Census Commissioner, said for Sabah alone, it has reached 98.2 per cent and is one of the highest censuses in the country.
He said there are a few days left in the implementation of the census which will end on Oct 10.
“This final phase will continue to focus on ensuring the collection of information for agricultural operators.

“The results of the 2024 Agricultural Census will provide important and useful statistics, especially to the Sabah State Government in formulating more accurate policies for the direction of the State’s agriculture sector in the future.
“In addition, the 2024 Agricultural Census also aims to achieve key results by developing an Integrated Agricultural Statistics Database, which will contain complete information on the agricultural chain from upstream to downstream which will be updated periodically,” he said.
This database is expected to be one of the main sources for the Government and agricultural agencies to formulate more accurate and effective policies for the future
of the country’s agricultural sector.
While the official figures for the census will be known next year where after the census period on Oct 10, his party will also hold a “mopping up” with the agencies involved, in addition to giving the agricultural sector involved an opportunity to appear in the census where he is sure there is still more to be counted.
He said this at a press conference after conducting a census visit to the white shrimp farming area at Haiky Aquaculture at Mile 7, Sungai Obar and Sungai Kayu, here, Monday.
Also present were the Director of the Environmental Agriculture Statistics Division who is also the Chairman of the 2024 Agricultural Census PIO Committee, Fuziah Amin, Deputy Commissioner of the 2024 Sabah Agricultural Census, Muhammad Amri Idris, Head of the Sandakan DOSM Operations Office, Imran Titing,and representatives from agencies involved, including the Sabah Veterinary Services Department, the Sabah Land Development
Authority and the Sabah Fisheries Department as well as the Sabah general manager of the shrimp farming company, Jack Kang.
Besides Sandakan, Uzir also visited several census operation areas in Kinabatangan, Beluran, Tongod and Telupid.
He expressed appreciation to all those involved in making the 2024 agricultural census a success, which is important in ensuring that no party is left out of accepting the policies formulated by the Government.
