Kota Kinabalu: The State Government will follow the Federal Government’s standard operating procedure (SOP) for travellers entering Malaysia, with effect from Wednesday (Jan 18).
State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said the decision was reached following discussion at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
“Sabah will waive the requirement for the certificate of vaccination. Secondly, a negative Covid-19 test is no longer required for travellers entering the State. This is now applicable to both domestic and foreign travellers,” she said in a statement after chairing a post-Cabinet meeting at the Ministry’s office.
From August 1, 2022, all travellers are allowed to enter Malaysia, regardless of their Covid-19 vaccination status and do not require a pre-departure or on-arrival Covid-19 test, as stipulated by the Federal Government.
Secondly, the Minister disclosed that the Cabinet has also approved the setting up of the Sabah Convention Bureau at the meeting, encompassing its vision, function and proposed services.
Its vision is to ensure Sabah is recognised nationally and internationally as one of the world’s best cities in hosting business events and to establish Sabah as a dynamic business event destination where people, technology and ideas converge to create great value for customers.
The Minister said the bureau will function as a “one-stop-shop” for independent information and assistance, and will give a planner advice on all aspects of hosting and organising conventions and business events within Sabah.
Meanwhile, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam said all international travellers entering Sabah will not need to undergo a pre-entry Covid-19 screening test.
He added that foreigners would not need to present a vaccination certificate when entering Sabah.
“The State Cabinet has decided on Wednesday that the entry procedures for all foreign tourists entering Sabah be fully standardised with the policy set by the Malaysian Health Ministry,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.
Sabah recorded a new all-time low of four cases on Wednesday.
