NEGERI Sembilan is no longer governed as a minority administration after top leaders of UMNO and Pakatan Harapan (PH) agreed to maintain their political cooperation, restoring stability to the state following a brief crisis.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the decision by the coalition’s leadership effectively resets the state government to its original position prior to the turmoil, signalling renewed cohesion within the ruling bloc.
“There is no longer a minority government status after the top leadership of UMNO and PH decided to maintain consensus and cooperation within the Unity Government.
“It was only on the day of the incident that the situation arose, and even then there was no decision as they (the opposition leaders) were also unclear, so the term ‘minority’ is no longer appropriate following the political bureau’s decision yesterday.”
He added that recent developments, including opposition figures stepping back from supporting moves against the government, have further strengthened the administration’s position.
All 14 BN Lawmakers Must Comply
Speaking separately, UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan said Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen who had withdrawn support for the Menteri Besar must now abide by the decision reached at the highest level of both parties.
“That was a meeting of the UMNO Political Bureau led by Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the PH Political Bureau led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and it was a meeting between the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister, and their decision has already been announced.
“Once a decision has been made, the Negeri Sembilan leadership must comply with whatever has been decided by the highest bodies of both parties,” he said.
Ahmad expressed confidence that the 14 BN state assemblymen involved would ultimately fall in line and continue backing the Unity Government for the sake of administrative stability, regardless of their personal confidence in the Menteri Besar.
“I believe they will abide by the decision, which is to continue supporting the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan.
“Whether they still have confidence in the Menteri Besar is another matter. But in terms of the state’s stability, the Unity Government must continue to be supported.
“Matters concerning traditional institutions should be left to the relevant parties to resolve,” he said, adding that he remained optimistic they would comply with the decision.
“I believe they will comply. From a positive perspective, I believe they will comply.”
The agreement was reached during a joint leadership consultative council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, reaffirming the continuation of the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan.
Aminuddin said he accepted the decision and would carry out his responsibilities accordingly.
“I accept the decision and will carry out the trust that has been given,” he said.
Despite the earlier withdrawal of support by several BN assemblymen, the Menteri Besar had continued to administer the state under a minority arrangement, in accordance with the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
He also reiterated that the state government would not interfere in matters concerning traditional institutions, including the appointment of the Undang of Luak Sungai Ujong, emphasising that such issues fall under the jurisdiction of the relevant customary authorities.
“We have received the originating summons and have handed over further action in accordance with legal procedures. In truth, at the level of adat and luak, we do not interfere; it is up to them or the DKU to manage,” he said.
The political resolution is expected to stabilise governance in Negeri Sembilan while allowing the administration to refocus on state affairs and public welfare. - May 6, 2026
