SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan state administration has been plunged into a leadership crisis after all 14 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen unanimously declared a vote of no confidence in Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
Negeri Sembilan BN Chairman, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias announced the withdrawal of support during a press conference today, confirming that an official notification would be dispatched to the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly and the State Assembly Secretary immediately.
Jalaluddin, who is the assemblyman for Pertang, revealed that the decision to retract support was primarily driven by the state government’s handling of an ongoing controversy.
The crisis involves four local chieftains (Undang) reportedly seeking to remove the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, from the throne.
Expressing the group’s “profound sadness and disappointment,” Jalaluddin criticised Aminuddin for failing to intervene or resolve the royal dispute.
“All 14 Umno-Barisan Nasional assemblymen unanimously declare that we have lost confidence in the Menteri Besar and his administration,” Jalaluddin stated.
Aminuddin, the Sikamat assemblyman, was sworn in for a second term in August 2023 following the state elections.
However, the withdrawal of BN’s 14 seats significantly undermines the stability of the current administration.
In the 2023 state polls, the 36-seat assembly was divided between – Pakatan Harapan (PH): 17 seats, Barisan Nasional (BN): 14 seatsand Perikatan Nasional (PN): 5 seats.
With BN moving to the opposition or an independent stance, the PH-led government loses its majority, potentially leading to a hung assembly or the formation of a new governing coalition.
The state now awaits a formal response from the Speaker and the Palace to determine the next constitutional steps for the administration.
