Negeri Sembilan’s state assembly will be dissolved tomorrow, announced Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun after obtaining the ruler’s consent.

SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly has been dissolved effective tomorrow (June 5), paving the way for the state’s next election, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun announced tonight.

Speaking at a late-night press conference, Aminuddin said the dissolution was carried out after receiving the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, in accordance with the state constitution.

“I have followed the provisions of the state constitution. I have received His Royal Highness’s consent,” he said.

Aminuddin said the Election Commission would be formally notified of the dissolution and would subsequently determine the dates for nomination, early voting and polling.

He also revealed that Tuanku Muhriz had granted consent following discussions with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Addressing speculation over the reasons behind the dissolution, Aminuddin cited changes in support within the state assembly, saying the political landscape had shifted significantly.

“We look at the situation where support changed. At first there was support, then it was withdrawn.

“It was no longer suitable for the government. So I believe it is necessary to give the people a new mandate to decide the future,” he said.

Previously, 14 Barisan Nasional assemblymen were reported to have withdrawn support for his administration, triggering political uncertainty in the state.

Aminuddin also announced that Pakatan Harapan will contest all 36 state seats in the upcoming election, with seat allocations among component parties expected to be finalised next week.

The press conference concluded with supporters chanting “Reformasi”.

The Negeri Sembilan election will be the second state poll announced this week after the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly on Monday.

In the 2023 state election, Pakatan Harapan won 17 seats while Barisan Nasional secured 14, enabling the two coalitions to form a unity government with a combined 31-seat majority in the 36-seat assembly.
