Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, has responded to the efforts of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) over their proposal to change the name of Port Dickson to Pantai Dermaga.
According to a report by Sinar Harian, he shared his belief that, should there be name changes, it should involve all places in Malaysia.

“I was informed about several NGOs led by the Pertubuhan Pemerkasaan Identiti (Identiti) together with the Malaysian Muslim Alliance (ISMA) to change the name of Port Dickson to another name, Pantai Dermaga. For me, if you want to change the name, change it all at once, not just Port Dickson,”
“We can change Port Klang, we can change Kuala Lumpur, Georgetown (Penang). Why one by one, slowly? How can Kuala Lumpur be called Kuala Lumpur when ‘Kuala’ (estuary) is basically close to the sea? Change the name to ‘Ulu Lumpur’,” he said.
Why Port Dickson?
He, who is also the Port Dickson MP, questioned why the location is being targeted during a time when he is asking all parties to be more open.
He went on to explain that Port Dickson is known by many, including foreign tourists, as a beach resort area.
“Port Dickson is known as a world-renowned beach resort. In fact, since I was born, the beach has been known as Port Dickson.”
The NGOs are said to be holding a press conference on Monday (15 September) regarding this.
