THE resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN) has triggered a parallel move at the state level, with the coalition’s Negeri Sembilan chairman announcing that he will step down from his post.

Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker, the Labu state assemblyman and chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Negeri Sembilan, said he would relinquish his position as PN Negeri Sembilan chairman with effect from 1 January 2026.

“I take note that my appointment as chairman of PN Negeri Sembilan falls under the jurisdiction of the PN Malaysia chairman,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

“In this regard, I hereby announce my resignation as PN chairman with effect from 1 January 2026.”

Mohamad Hanifah said the decision was made with a full sense of responsibility and was consistent with the principle of respecting PN’s organisational structure, hierarchy and governance framework.

He also expressed his appreciation to party leaders, colleagues and supporters for their cooperation and trust during his tenure.

“I would like to record my highest appreciation and thanks to all leaders, party colleagues, machinery and supporters of PN Negeri Sembilan for the cooperation, support and confidence that have been given to me throughout the period of carrying this responsibility,” he said. - December 30, 2025
