The Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir, has revoked the state honours awarded to Tan Sri Dr Mohd Rais Yatim with immediate effect.

SEREMBAN: Former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Tan Sri Dr Mohd Rais Yatim has had two state honours withdrawn with immediate effect.

In a statement today, State secretary Datuk Mohd Zafir Ibrahim said the Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan had decreed the withdrawal of the Darjah Seri Utama Negeri Sembilan (S.P.N.S), which was conferred in 2001, and the Darjah Dato’ Setia Negeri Sembilan (D.S.N.S), which was awarded in 1979, from Rais.

The decision was made to preserve the “greatness, dignity and honour” of the Negeri Sembilan Royal Institution, according to the statement.

No reason was provided for the withdrawal of the honours.

Rais, 84, served as the Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan from 1978 to 1982 before holding several federal Cabinet positions, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Information, Culture and Arts, and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

He later served as the 18th President of the Dewan Negara from 2020 to 2023.

The statement was issued by Mohd Zafir today (July 30).
