Negeri Sembilan’s 2026 budget allocates RM640 million, with a RM30 million deficit, focusing on education, civil servant aid, and nine core development areas
SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan state government has tabled its 2026 budget with a total allocation of RM640 million and a projected deficit of RM30 million.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun presented the ‘Belanjawan MADANI Rakyat Harmoni’, which forecasts revenue of RM610 million against expenditure.
Operating expenditure accounts for RM490 million of the total, with RM150 million allocated for development.
Tax revenue is projected at RM172.64 million, an increase of RM13.29 million compared to the 2025 estimate.
Non-tax revenue, expected to be the main contributor, is estimated at RM372.6 million, a rise of RM8.03 million.
Non-revenue receipts are forecast to decline slightly to RM64.76 million next year from RM66.08 million in 2025.
The RM150 million development expenditure is allocated across several sectors.
The social sector receives the largest share at RM73.86 million, followed by administration (RM26.98 million) and infrastructure (RM22.39 million).
Agriculture is allocated RM12.19 million, spirituality RM9.88 million, and tourism RM4.70 million.
Aminuddin said the budget focuses on nine core areas including economic sustainability, food security, and education.
“Education is the main pillar of national and state development, as well as a long-term investment that determines the direction and progress of future generations,” he said.
Education initiatives, including 16 existing and one new programme, will receive RM28.81 million.
The initiatives cover headmaster responsibility allowances, school children’s aid, and laptop assistance.
The state also announced special financial aid (BKK) for all state civil servants.
The aid ranges from a minimum of two months’ to a maximum of three months’ salary, to be paid in January and March 2026.
“This award applies to all state civil servants, state statutory bodies, and local authorities,” Aminuddin said.
A performance-based BKK will be paid in June 2026 to high-performing civil servants.
Aminuddin added that the contribution recognises their sacrifice and role in ensuring efficient governance.
The Negeri Sembilan State Assembly session began today and will run until December 11. – Bernama
