KUALA LUMPUR – Negeri Sembilan Umno has submitted a request for an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, following its decision to withdraw support for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
State Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said the request was made to formally convey the party’s official stance regarding the shift in political support affecting the state administration.
“We have applied for an audience with Tuanku to inform him of our withdrawal of support for the Menteri Besar, and I have yet to be granted an audience. I am ready to do so at any time,” he told reporters in Seremban today, reported Bernama.
The Pertang assemblyman said Umno’s cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) had previously been guided by several “red lines”, including matters involving religion, race and the royal institution (3R).
He said the current developments were rooted in the party’s stance to uphold its principles in relation to issues involving the Undang (customary chieftains) and the royal institution.
Jalaluddin noted that similar issues had arisen in the past but were resolved discreetly without escalating into public debate. However, he said the present situation had been allowed to fester, leading to widespread speculation that could affect the reputation of both the state government and traditional institutions.
“We want to ensure the Negeri Sembilan government is administered properly and remains stable, particularly on matters concerning the people and adat (customary) institutions. This crisis should have been addressed earlier to prevent it from becoming a public polemic,” he said.
He added that all Barisan Nasional (BN) exco members had been instructed to return official assets, including vehicles, and vacate their offices effective yesterday.
Yesterday, all 14 Umno-BN assemblymen in the state unanimously withdrew support for Aminuddin’s administration amid the ongoing leadership crisis.
However, Aminuddin has said he was instructed by Tuanku Muhriz to continue carrying out his duties as Menteri Besar.
Jalaluddin also rejected claims that the move amounted to a “backdoor government”, insisting it was instead a matter of defending party principles and safeguarding the Undang and royal institution.
He said the notion of a power grab did not arise, as BN was already part of the state government alongside PH, not the opposition.
“If we wanted to do that, we could have done so right after the election, given the numbers. There is no reason for us to resort to such action when we are already in government,” he said.
Negeri Sembilan has 36 state seats, of which PH holds 17, BN 14, and Perikatan Nasional (PN) five following the 2023 state election. PH and BN had formed the state government with a combined 31 seats. – April 28, 2026
