
Nepal agrees to expedite the verification process for 55 missing Malaysians following talks between PM Anwar Ibrahim and Nepalese counterpart Balendra Shah.
PUTRAJAYA: Nepal has agreed to expedite the process of verifying the status of 55 Malaysians who remain unaccounted for following the disaster in the country.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was informed of the agreement during a conversation with his Nepalese counterpart, Balendra Shah, yesterday.
Fahmi said Anwar subsequently instructed the Attorney-General to hold immediate further discussions with the Nepalese authorities to speed up the verification process.
“Anwar has directed the Attorney-General to have further discussions immediately with the Nepalese authorities to expedite the verification process,” he said at a press conference after the Cabinet meeting today.
He said the process involved legal and court-related matters, requiring the involvement of the Attorney-General.
“As this involves legal and court-related aspects, the Attorney-General has been tasked with expediting the process,” Fahmi said.
