I can still remember when visiting Nepal a few years ago that has been tagged as the ‘ceiling of the world’ for being the pride of the country and home to eight of the ten world's highest mountains including Mount Everest. A significant portion of the Himalayas is in Nepal. It is the home habitat for many species of flora and fauna with many UNESCO World Heritage Sites. (http://whc.unesco.org)

It was refreshing to my memory when I met Yazdi, COO Sejahtera Leadership Initiative & Global Sejahtera at High Impact Research (HIR) University Malaya (UM), who just returned to KL after an interesting two weeks' sojourn with leaders of Community Innovation Organisation (CIO) Nepal. In addition to public engagement as a facilitator at a seminar attended by 30 youth leaders, he also visited villages that were affected by the recent flood in the Panauti Municipality.

In obliging to my request, Yazdi agreed to share experiences with delegates for the upcoming SLI & GS Hybrid Roundtable 2025 at HIR Conference Room in Universiti Malaya. He will share with the delegates about some lessons learned during his journey in Nepal and while networking with the CIO leaders, individual volunteers and other communities, institutions and Mayor of the local government.

To add value for this HIR-UM roundtable in KL, Nirmal Khatri, CIO Project Lead will also deliver online presentation from Kathmandu regarding his team experience and the challenges encountered when taking the responsibility in managing the flood relief project. He believes every issiue, problem, crisis, no matter how small it may seem, is a collective concern that impacts humanity and wellbeing.

Nirmal, a promising youth leader said, “Our ‘Project Recovery 2024: Reclaiming Community’ aims to assist the villages within Panauti Municipality, in regaining access to safe drinking water and addressing their basic needs such as alternative light. It also endevours to alleviate the burden on the local government and aid in restoring normalcy within the community. In brief, this initative has positively impacted over 460 families comprising 2,800 individuals, ensuring them access to clean drinking water. (communityinnovation.org.np)
