Families of three Malaysian climbers missing since a Nepal flash flood and landslide hold onto hope as Wisma Putra briefs them on the case.
KUALA LUMPUR: The families and friends of three Malaysian climbers reported missing following a flash flood and landslide in the Nepal-Tibet border area last Wednesday are still hoping for good news regarding their safety.
The three climbers are Muhammad Muhaimin Azhad Noor Hadi, 27, Muhammad Adib Haikal Awang Mansor, 27, and Muhammad Zaki Othman, 29, who were reported uncontactable while undertaking a climbing activity in the Langtang Valley.
In a post on the Threads app, a friend of the three climbers appealed to the public to continue praying for their safety.
According to a post by user emyliatahar, the last message from the group was received at 10.42 am (Malaysia time) on the day of the incident, August 26, with their last location detected around the Bhote Koshi area.
“We have reported the disappearance of the three of them to the Malaysian Embassy in Nepal as well as Wisma Putra to enable follow-up action and rescue operations to be carried out,” she said.
Muhammad Muhaimin is from Gelugor, Penang, Muhammad Zaki from Kubang Semang, Bukit Mertajam, while Muhammad Adib Haikal is from Kulim, Kedah.
In another post on Threads, user myanaimah requested prayers from the public that her brother-in-law, Muhammad Adib Haikal, and his two friends are safe.
Meanwhile, Wisma Putra today held a special briefing session with the next-of-kin and family members to convey the latest updates regarding the case.
Family members have also been asked to be prepared to undergo deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) testing to assist in the identity verification process, following the discovery of unidentified remains in the disaster area.
