  • Rapper-politician Balendra Shah, 35, has been sworn in as Nepal’s youngest elected Prime Minister, following his party's landslide victory in the recent parliamentary election.
  • Mr Shah, the first leader from the Madhesi community, is seen as a symbol of change after last year’s youth-led protests against political instability and corruption.
  • His centrist Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), founded in 2022, secured 182 out of 275 seats in the House of Representatives.
  • Mr Shah faces significant challenges, including restoring political stability and creating jobs in the economically struggling nation.
  • Hours ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Mr Shah released a new song in which he addressed “undivided Nepali” and rapped “the strength of unity is my national power”.
