Berjaya Corporation CEO Nerine Tan has been named among Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Asia 2026 alongside four other prominent Malaysian female business leaders.
PETALING JAYA: Berjaya Corporation Bhd chief executive officer Nerine Tan has been named among Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Asia 2026, securing the 91st position on the regional ranking.
Tan is among five Malaysian business leaders featured on Fortune’s 2026 list, which recognises 100 women across Asia-Pacific for their leadership, business performance and influence.
According to Fortune, Tan became the sole CEO of Berjaya Corp on Feb 5, following the retirement of joint CEO Vivienne Cheng.
She had served as co-CEO of the Malaysian conglomerate since March 2023.
Tan, the daughter of Berjaya founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan, brings more than 25 years of experience in sales, operations, marketing strategy and business development across various industries.
She began her career supporting the sales and marketing functions of Cosway products before moving into Berjaya Hotels & Resorts, where she was involved in marketing and spa management and later became vice-president of the group’s marketing division.
In 2007, Tan joined STM Lottery Sdn Bhd, where she gained experience in sales operations and marketing before spearheading the company’s sales and marketing strategies.
She was appointed executive director in 2010 and became its CEO in 2018.
She is currently also the CEO of Sports Toto Bhd and holds directorships in several private companies within the Berjaya group. She is also a member of Berjaya Corp’s Sustainability Committee.
Fortune said its 2026 ranking evaluates women leaders based on factors including the scale and performance of the organisations they lead, innovation, influence, career trajectory and broader impact.
The 2026 list covers 14 markets across Asia-Pacific, with technology and banking among the most represented sectors.
Malaysia has five representatives on this year’s list, including UOB Malaysia CEO Ng Wei Wei at No. 85, Tan at No. 91, Sunway Group executive deputy chair Datin Paduka Sarena Cheah at No. 92, Affin Bank group CFO Joanne Rodrigues at No. 99 and Public Bank CFO Yik Sook Ling at No. 100.
Tan’s inclusion comes as she takes on the leadership of one of Malaysia’s diversified conglomerates, whose businesses span areas including hospitality, property, retail, automotive and gaming.
