money heist netflix universe expansion

Netflix has officially confirmed that the world of Money Heist is continuing beyond the Berlin spin-offs. The streamer unveiled a cryptic teaser titled “The world of Money Heist continues” during a large-scale promotional event in Seville ahead of the release of Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine on 15 May 2026.

While Netflix has not announced Money Heist season 6, the teaser strongly suggests that the La Casa de Papel franchise is entering a new expansion phase with possible spin-offs, sequels and interconnected stories.

Netflix confirms the expansion of the Money Heist universe

The announcement arrived with a teaser revisiting iconic moments from the original series, including the Royal Mint and Bank of Spain heists. The video ends with the message: “The world of Money Heist continues.”

Netflix also released an accompanying statement hinting that the franchise could grow far beyond a single continuation project.

“From now on, this is mission control for everything in the ‘Money Heist’ universe,” the streamer stated, while adding that “the revolution NEVER ends.”

The wording has sparked immediate speculation among fans, many of whom believe Netflix may be planning multiple spin-offs rather than a straightforward sixth season.

The expansion announcement was revealed during the world premiere event for Berlin season 2 in Seville, Spain.

Álvaro Morte, who played Sergio Marquina aka The Professor, appeared at the event to confirm that the franchise would continue. The teaser campaign also included red jumpsuits, Dalí masks, boats travelling through the Guadalquivir River, and crowds singing Bella Ciao, recreating the atmosphere that made the original series a global phenomenon.

The involvement of Morte has naturally led to speculation about whether The Professor could return in a future instalment.

Could The Professor return?

At the moment, Netflix has not confirmed which characters will lead the next chapter of the franchise.

However, The Professor remains one of the biggest unanswered questions surrounding the expansion. Since the character survived the ending of Money Heist, Netflix does not need to create a complicated revival storyline to bring him back.

The teaser itself heavily references gold bars and the aftermath of the Bank of Spain robbery, suggesting the original timeline may still play an important role moving forward.

A Colonel Tamayo spin-off may already be in development

One of the biggest rumours surrounding the expansion involves Colonel Tamayo, played by Fernando Cayo.

According to a Variety report, Spanish publication El País recently reported that Vancouver Media, the production company founded by Money Heist creator Álex Pina, is reportedly filming a four-episode miniseries focused on the character.

Netflix has not officially confirmed the project yet, though the timing of the new teaser has intensified speculation that more announcements may follow after Berlin season 2 premieres.
