Recently, the Kuantan City Council (MBK) shared their disappointment over how businesses are not displaying the national flag, the Jalur Gemilang, in conjunction with the Merdeka month.

In fact, they then started forcing businesses to do so along with threats to fine those who don’t, starting today (August 18).

Malaysians, on the other hand, took to MBK’s post to explain why many are not feeling very patriotic this year and hence, have since chosen not to take part in the independence month celebrations.

Many have lost faith in the country and the government after the constant political instability and incompetency.

“The people now hate Malaysia and the government. Maybe they are waiting to put up GE15 flags.”

“The spirit to rob is now forced. (There’ll be) a deeper lack of patriotism. Even displaying (the flag) will be insincere.”

“It may be that traders are tired of serving the government in irrelevant national administrative policies. That’s why the ‘independence’ mood has disappeared elsewhere. I hope MBK will understand the pain that traders endure now. Look at how the people used to display flags on their car bonnets while wandering around the city, now where can you see that? This is what you call tiredness to the maximum.”

So, would you really blame businesses for feeling too exhausted and a little lazy to put up flags this year?

Stay tuned for more updates.
