  • Cambodia officially opened its new Techo International Airport, a $2 billion facility located 20 kilometres outside Phnom Penh, designed to significantly boost the nation's tourism sector.
  • The state-of-the-art airport, boasting three runways, replaces the nearly 70-year-old Phnom Penh International Airport and welcomed its inaugural Air Cambodia flight from China on its opening day.
  • Initially capable of accommodating 13 million passengers, the airport's capacity is projected to expand to 30 million after 2030 and up to 50 million by 2050.
  • The project is a joint venture between the Cambodian government and the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corp, with design by Britain’s Foster + Partners and construction by China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Group Co. Ltd.
  • This opening follows the 2023 inauguration of Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport, as Cambodia seeks to capitalise on its growing tourism industry, which saw 6.7 million international visitors in 2024.
