Perak provides 180.9 hectares of new farmland for 200 displaced farmers in Kinta district, addressing a long-standing land conflict.

IPOH: Three separate locations in the Kinta district covering more than 180.9 hectares will be developed as new agricultural areas for approximately 200 farmers previously displaced from the Silver Valley Technology Park (SVTP) project area in Kanthan, Chemor.

Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, the political secretary to the finance minister, said discussions are currently underway with the owners of the identified locations.

“At the same time, we are identifying farmers who are truly interested in continuing agricultural activities, and they will be placed in locations that we have identified,” he told reporters here today.

The SVTP project, built on land owned by the Perbadanan Negeri Perak (PKNPk), was a large-scale development in Perak but faced challenges after clashing with a group of farmers accused of illegally occupying the area more than 20 years ago.

Muhammad Kamil said the selection of the three locations considered various aspects, including basic amenities such as water sources.

“Apart from that, we also assess the suitability of the land, access to infrastructure, and the ability of the area in question to support agricultural activities carried out by the farmers in question,” he said.

He added that his party hopes the efforts will facilitate the affected farmers and enable them to generate income as before.

“This issue is not new. On the contrary, it is a legacy issue that has been going on for a long time. In fact, we are committed to finding a comprehensive solution so that farmers can continue their economic activities as usual,” he added.
