
Kota Kinabalu: Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Christina Liew described the speakers, visitors and diving professionals participating in the inaugural ADEX (Asia Dive Expo) Sabah Ocean Partnership Summit 2023, here, as a new breed of ocean heroes.
She said Sabah takes pride in hosting the event, an initiative in furtherance of the global agenda set by the United Nations for the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
Speaking at the opening at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), she said: “We not only celebrate an event, but also join hands in marking Sabah on the world stage, showcasing our rich marine heritage and our unwavering commitment to ocean conservation.
“Let’s collaborate, share ideas, and together, pave a path towards actionable solutions for our oceans. We must ensure this summit serves as a turning-point for marine conservation efforts worldwide.”

Read more The Minister noted that the summit gathers global experts and pioneers to dive deeply into ocean conservation, diving disciplines and sustainability.
“Over this weekend, we have over a dozen speakers from the UK, France, Hong Kong, Philippines, South Korea, Indonesia, Switzerland and Egypt. This is complemented by global media outlets from these nations.
“We also have over a dozen local speakers who are experts in their respective fields, sharing the stage and imparting their knowledge. Here, you’ll find a mix of knowledge, innovation, and passion for our oceans,” she said. Daily Express is a media partner.
She said the summit is designed to be more than just an exhibition. A platform for action whereby through panel discussions, all stakeholders aim to confront the pressing conservation challenges of our times and collaboratively find tangible solutions that resonate globally.
“Our commitment doesn’t stop at discussions. Over the next few days, they will actively seek and remove marine debris, ensuring our beautiful waters remain for a non-stop 23 hours (Ghost Net event).
“Our shores will also witness the enchanting grace of mermaids from across the globe, competing in the International ADEX Sabah Mermaid Competition 2023, adding a touch of magic to our cause.”
She invited them to explore and relish the diverse beauty and offerings of Sabah.
