The year 2022 was historic for Sabah where regaining control of own gas resources is concerned after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s new Unity federal government announced that the national oil company, Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) will hand over control of Sabah’s gas supply back to the state.
It is in line with the devolution of more powers from the federal government to the state government, in line with the Malaysia Agreement 1963, following Nov 19’s GE15.
The date for the transfer would be made after getting the consent of the Agong. The Sabah State Legislative Assembly will then convene a special sitting to approve and gazette the Sabah State Bill for gas supply.
