SANDAKAN: The proposed new civil service hiring policy which includes a new pension scheme should be discussed with the governments of Sabah and Sarawak before implementation, according to GRS Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee.
He said this conforms with the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) report which holds that the interests of Sabah and Sarawak should be viewed in the same light as the Malaysia Agreement 1963, which was signed after Malaysia formed and states that the rights of Sabah and Sarawak are specified in the agreement.
He noted that civil servants in Sabah are under the State Government but the pension is managed by the Federal Government.
Under the proposal, newly-appointed civiol servants would no longer be eligible for pension but contribute to an Employees Provident Fund like private sector employees.

Yong said the pension is not only important for pensioners but also involves their heirs, when met at the GRS Jelajah Wanita Zone 5B involving Libaran, Beluran and Kinabatangan at the Libaran Multipurpose Hall, Sunday.
Yong represented GRS Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and presented the certificate of appointment to nine Zone 5B Wanita Coordinators.
Yong also said in addition to the 40 per cent tax revenue refund right, the MA63 also involves various aspects such as public service, among others.
On the programme, Yong said the role of Wanita GRS is very good, especially in helping at the grassroots.
