In a recent escalation of political tensions, Bersatu Youth has lodged a police complaint against an online news portal linked to one of the unity government’s component parties. The complaint alleges that the portal manipulated a video of a speech delivered by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, chairman of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, during a recent Nenggiri by-election rally.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, the head of Bersatu Youth, has accused the portal of deliberately editing the video to distort Muhyiddin’s statements, which has purportedly incited public unrest and tarnished the reputation of the former Prime Minister. According to Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, the video was altered to create a false narrative that pits PN leaders against the Malay royal institution, aiming to stir up controversy and unrest.

“The manipulation of this video is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and foster discord,” Wan Ahmad Fayhsal asserted at the Dang Wangi police station where the report was filed. He criticized the act as a cowardly political maneuver designed to misrepresent Bersatu and its leaders.

The disputed video, which quickly went viral on social media, reportedly included comments by Muhyiddin regarding the role of Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, during his tenure as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Muhyiddin had suggested that, following the 2022 general elections, he had garnered support from 115 members of parliament and implied that the King should have appointed him as the 10th Prime Minister.

This speech has drawn sharp criticism from Tengku Mahkota Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, who denounced Muhyiddin’s remarks as disrespectful to his father, the Sultan. Tengku Hassanal has called for legal action against Muhyiddin, accusing him of undermining the monarchy.

In defense, Muhyiddin has maintained that his comments were factual and not intended to be disrespectful or seditious. He has expressed his willingness to cooperate fully with the police investigation to clarify his position and address any misunderstandings.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, in his police report, argued that PN and Bersatu are dedicated to protecting the values of religion, race, and nation, and questioned the allegations of undermining the royal institution. He hopes the investigation will exonerate Muhyiddin and reveal the true intent behind the edited video.
