New Covid-19 cases up by 11%, hospital admissions also rise

PETALING JAYA: The number of new Covid-19 cases increased last week by 10.9% to 15,739 from 14,195 the week before, said health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In his update for the week ending June 25, Noor Hisham said the increase in cases also saw a rise in the number of people admitted to public hospitals and quarantine centres.

The number of hospital admissions rose by 11% per population of 100,000 compared with the preceding week.

However, overall bed occupancy for non-critical cases and utilisation of intensive care unit (ICU) beds were unchanged.

Noor Hisham said there are currently 26,946 active cases.

“Recoveries rose by 33.8% from 10,524 to 14,078,” he said in a statement.

“The number of deaths dropped by 38.1% from 21 to 13, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 35,745.”

He also said 4,554,661 Covid-19 cases had been recorded in the country since January 2020.
