When we got our hands-on session with the Galaxy Z Flip7, we were surprised that there was another flip phone announced. That’s why we’re calling it the Z Flip7 series. But, we’ll talk about the Galaxy Z Flip7 first. Many things will be the same as the Z Fold7, so I’ll probably go through the details a bit faster here.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7

Starting with the colors, we have the Blue Shadow, Jet Black, Coral Red, and also the online exclusive Mint color that was not shown during our hands-on session. Personally, I would’ve picked either the Coral Red or the Mint color if the hue is right. Samsung knows what they’re doing by swaying away from the boring colors.

Now, the cover display. It’s now using a 4.1-inch edge-to-edge FlexWindow display and has holes for the cameras as the display literally fills in all the cracks. I’m not sure how to apply a screen protector on this, but we’ll see.

The FlexWindow display has also been upgraded to a maximum brightness of 2,600 nits and 120Hz refresh rate. We’ll test out all of these things when we get the unit.

When unfolded, we now have a larger 6.9-inch display inside, and it is a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 is also thinner than before. While it’s not that obvious when we put them side by side, it can definitely be felt when I’m holding the phone in my hands.

The hinge has also been upgraded to the same Armor FlexHinge as the Z Fold7, alongside the Grade 4 Titanium Lattice underneath the display to make it stronger. The ultra-thin glass is now also 50% thicker alongside a new adhesive material to stick to the display.

Here comes the hardware specs as these things are going to be funky. At least for our region, the Galaxy Z Flip7 is using the new Exynos 2500 that was just announced like two weeks ago. If you haven’t already know, the Exynos 2500 is using Samsung’s latest 3nm process node with gate-all-around transistor architecture. We’ll definitely test it out when we get our hands on it, so stay tuned for that.

The battery capacity has increased to 4,300mAh, and the charging speed remains the same as before. Again, the numbers don’t really matter as the real-world tests matter more.

The software side of things is the same as the Z Fold7 as it will also come with One UI 8 out of the box, but there are some exclusive features with the FlexWindow.

First, voice commands for AI stuff can now be done on the cover display. It has a new UI too, so that’s a nice bonus. Google Lens also works on the FlexWindow as well, alongside the Now Bar and Now Brief. I mean, we can now do more things and do them faster on the cover display without unfolding the phone.

By the way – one of the new feature is the One UI Stretched Clock Font. It adapts to your wallpaper and stretches accordingly, and that can be done on the FlexWindow.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 will also get 7 generations of Android OS upgrades and 7 years of security patches, just like the Z Fold7 and many other phones announced since a few years.

Let’s talk cameras. We still only have two cameras here, 50MP main and 12MP ultrawide angle, and another 10MP selfie camera for the unfolded display. While the hardware didn’t change, the software did. It has the same next-generation ProVisual Engine for noise reduction and also 10-bit HDR video support.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE

Surprise! Here’s the first-ever FE that we have in the Z Flip series. Before you get too excited, the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE is basically the Z Flip6 with a new coat of paint – as in only available in black and white colors.

While it has the exact same hardware as the Z Flip6 from last year, it does have One UI 8 out of the box alongside all of the latest bells and whistles that the Z Flip7 is getting, alongside 7 generations of Android OS upgrades and 7 years of security patches.

It is, however, now using an Exynos 2400 chipset. Not sure about other region – but Exynos 2400 for us. here in Malaysia. Again, this chipset is actually doing just fine. Check out our other videos about the S24+ that is using the Exynos 2400 chipset. I love that phone to bits.

And that is all that we have to share with the Galaxy Z Flip7 series as of now. We will have our full review coming when we have our hands on it, and do check out other devices that were announced during this Unpacked too.
