Senior IPS officer Sibash Kabiraj took charge as the new Gurugram Commissioner of Police on Wednesday. The 1999-batch officer, who earlier served as Panchkula CP, was welcomed by senior officers and staff at the commissionerate headquarters.
Soon after assuming office, Kabiraj chaired a high-level review meeting with senior district officers to assess the law and order situation, cybercrime trends and women’s safety measures.
Outlining his priorities, the Commissioner said easing Gurugram’s chronic traffic congestion and reducing road accidents would remain his key focus areas. He also stressed the need to strengthen basic policing across the city.
As part of this strategy, Kabiraj said the police would revive a proactive beat policing system to improve police visibility, strengthen ground-level intelligence and build public confidence.
“Gurugram is a high-profile and sensitive city where maintaining law and order and ensuring citizen safety are our top priorities,” he said. “The police administration will work with transparency, sensitivity and professionalism to control crime effectively.”
The Commissioner said curbing cyber fraud and cracking down on local narcotics networks would also be major focus areas. He directed officers to prioritise complaints and ensure time-bound grievance redressal.
Kabiraj added that Gurugram police would hold regular interactions with citizen groups and residents’ welfare associations, while taking strict legal action against criminals.
