New hantavirus cases confirmed as UK cruise ship passengers are quarantined

  • Three new cases of hantavirus have been identified among passengers repatriated from the MV Hondius cruise ship.
  • A French woman tested positive after being evacuated to Paris, and two American passengers also tested positive after being flown to Nebraska.
  • Twenty British passengers, who were tested before their flight, are now in isolation at Arrowe Park Hospital in Merseyside after arriving at Manchester Airport.
  • The UK Health Security Agency has initiated contact tracing for individuals who had contact with those evacuated from the affected cruise ship.
  • These new cases contradict earlier statements from Spanish health officials, the World Health Organisation, and Oceanwide Expeditions, which claimed no symptoms were present among the ship's passengers.
