Korean automaking giant Hyundai is set to expand its Ioniq-branded electric vehicle (EV) line-up with a third new edition. Teased earlier today was the upcoming new Hyundai Ioniq 9, and the automaker confirmed that it will be a sizeable three-row EV SUV when it officially debuts next month (Nov).

Apart from a silhouette, Hyundai did release several other images showing the Ioniq 9’s headlights, wheel and lower rear door panel designs. Not much else was released apart form which, but said images all clearly indicate the new model’s key inspiration – the Hyundai SEVEN concept.

Besides that, we can also see the Ioniq 9 is set to feature a number of traits already seen in other Hyundai Ioniq EVs like the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. Key amongst which is the single-line Parametric Pixel LED DRLs up front, flushed door handles, as sharp creases inspired by Korean Hanbok.

According to Hyundai, the Ioniq 9’s “Aerosthetic” design was inspired by boats, and it sees a single curve for the roofline. Elsewhere, we can see the ultra-long wheelbase the Ioniq 9 is set to feature – perhaps warranted given that it will house three-rows of seats on board.

Critically, expect the Hyundai Ioniq 9 to be built atop of the same Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) underpinnings as the existing Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 models, and perhaps a similar driveline and battery as its Kia EV9 ‘cousin’.

As a refresher, the Kia EV9 in range-topping GT-Line form packs a dual-motor, AWD setup rated at 385 PS and 700 NM. Said driveline is juiced by a sizeable 99.8 kWh battery pack as well, granting a maximum travel range of up 505 KM as well.

Expect more details once the Hyundai Ioniq 9 officially debuts sometime next month.
