Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno Information Chief Datuk Suhaimi Haji Nasir said it is unfair that civil servants have to serve at least more than 30 years before being eligible for pension while elected representatives who only serve for five years are eligible.

The abolition of the pension scheme for newly appointed civil servants and to have them placed on a scheme similar to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) as in the case of private sector employees is scheduled to be effective February.

The move is expected to save the Government billions of ringgit. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said political appointments won’t be spared but that it would only apply to new appointments and won’t be retrospective.
