THE position of Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman will be determined in the Extraordinary Meeting of the coalition's Supreme Council scheduled to be held this Sunday.
PN Deputy Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, said that the special meeting has been set for February 22, at 3 pm at the PAS General Office, Kuala Lumpur.
According to him, the meeting was held specifically to discuss two main agendas, including approving the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as PN Chairman and appointing a new chairman to lead the coalition.
“This meeting is an extraordinary meeting of the PN Supreme Council.
“The agenda stated in the summons is only two items, namely accepting Tan Sri Muhyiddin’s resignation as PN Chairman and appointing a new PN Chairman,” he said.
He said this after attending the Chinese New Year celebration at the residence of the Federation of Chinese Associations of Kelantan president, Datuk Oie Poh Choon.
He said that according to the PN constitution, when the position of chairman is vacant, the meeting must appoint one of the Deputy Chairmen to chair the meeting.
He said that currently PN has three Deputy Chairmen, and the selection of the meeting chairman will be decided according to the provisions of the coalition constitution.
Meanwhile, he explained that an extraordinary meeting can be held when at least half of the member parties agree to call it.
"In PN, there are four member parties. When at least two parties agree, then the meeting must be held.
“So far, agreement has been reached to call the extraordinary meeting,” he said.
He also announced that before that, PAS Central would hold a meeting at 11 am the same day, before being followed by an Extraordinary Meeting of the PN Supreme Council in the afternoon.
Asked whether the issue of the Opposition Leader would also be discussed, he said that the matter was not included in the official agenda of the meeting.
“As far as the summons issued, there are only those two agendas.
“The issue of the Opposition Leader is a different matter and may be discussed in a separate meeting,” he said. – February 17, 2026
