SANDAKAN: Newly-appointed Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) President Walter Kenson has outlined three main focuses to ensure efficient service delivery in the municipality.

He said the first is to enhance efficiency, particularly in speeding up the process for business licence applications, development plan approvals and counter and other services.

“We also need to ensure the provision of optimal facilities for the residents and business community, which will attract investments and improve the local economy,” he added.

Walter received his letter of appointment from Deputy Chief Minister II cum Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jaochim Gusalan. Also present were MPS Deputy President Farizal Setoh and Secretary Irman Tajuddin Edy, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Datuk Dr Jamili Nais and Deputy Permanent Secretaries I and II, Stanley Chong and Faridah Giau.

Advertisement (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});Walter, 57, has extensive experience in the public service, having served at the Ministry of Community Development and Consumer Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry.

He was also the District Officer of Keningau and served at the Kota Kinabalu City Hall for 18 years.

Walter’s second focus is enhancing the landscape, efficient waste management and aesthetics, in line with Sandakan’s moniker as the “City of Natural Environment.”

“We will coordinate with every agency in Sandakan to ensure a collective effort in making it a prosperous natural environment city with a positive impact on its residents,” he added.

According to Walter, his third focus will be guided by the implementation of policies under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development, which focuses on the welfare of the local population.

During the same ceremony, appointment letters were also presented Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) President Joseph Pang, whose service has been extended, and MPS Deputy President Wilson Thomas.

Joachim hoped all appointees would fulfil their responsibilities with dedication, ensuring the best possible service for the local communities in MPS and MPT.
