Penang FC coach credits two new players for team’s revival after 5-0 win, as side climbs to ninth in the Super League standings

THE addition of two new players has been instrumental in Penang FC’s resurgence during the second round of the 2025/2026 Super League, according to head coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail.

He said Nur Shamie Iszuan Amin, on loan from Kuching City FC, and 21-year-old Filipino import Amirul Kamil Jaser are expected to play a crucial role for the remainder of the season.

Wan Rohaimi added that their chemistry with the team was very encouraging despite training together for less than a week.

Penang thrashed Melaka FC 5-0 at the City Stadium for their second consecutive win in the league’s second round.

“Credit goes to all the players as they showed great determination and desire to win from the start,” Wan Rohaimi told reporters after the match.

He said everything the team planned went smoothly, with the attack scoring four goals within 14 minutes.

However, the coach expressed concern over Australian striker Dylan Wenzel-Halls, who suffered an injury during the match.

Wan Rohaimi said the team is awaiting a full medical report and hopes the injury is not serious ahead of Wednesday’s match against KL City FC.

Meanwhile, Melaka head coach E. Elavarasan admitted his players have yet to fully adapt to recent squad changes.

He said the four quick goals conceded put his team in a difficult position from which they could not recover.

The victory moved Penang up to ninth in the Super League standings, overtaking Sabah FC on goal difference.
