TAMBUNAN: Tambunan Assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey G. Kitingan, who is also Keningau MP, said efforts are focused on exploring and developing two key natural assets - the Mara-Kara Waterfall and Maraiguang Waterfall - as new ecotourism spots in Sabah.
He said developing a robust and competitive tourism sector is key to improving living standards in rural communities.
He inspected the condition of overland routes and road networks leading to the Mara-Kara Waterfall, starting from Kampung Monsok Tengah.
Initial exploration work and safe route identification began early this year, supported by direct financial allocations to youth teams from Kampung Kuala Monsok, Kampung Monsok Tengah and Kampung Monsok Ulu to drive community ownership.
As the waterfalls are situated within a Class 1 Protection Forest Reserve, Dr Jeffrey emphasised that any development must balance infrastructure progress with strict environmental conservation, adhering to sustainable and eco-friendly principles.
He thanked the Tambunan Forestry Department and the Tambunan Public Works Department (JKR) for their technical expertise and cooperation.
