New traffic fine policy to reward prompt payment begins Jan 1

THE Cabinet has agreed to standardise the rates and implementation of traffic compound notices nationwide, in a move aimed at ensuring uniformity in the enforcement of road laws across Malaysia.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that the government will phase out traffic summons discounts given under special campaigns or programmes, replacing them with a tiered system under the principle of “The Less You Delay, The Less You Pay”, effective 1 January 2025.

“This is because offering discounts through programmes is unfair to those who are responsible and settle their summonses early,” he said during a press conference at Parliament today.

“Based on the principle ‘The Less You Delay, The Less You Pay’, the compound rate will be lower if payment is made earlier. This approach is intended to incentivise responsible individuals to pay their summonses promptly,” he added.

Also present at the press conference was Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. - October 22, 2025
