BEAUFORT: A newborn baby girl, believed to be 36 weeks old, was found abandoned in a box outside a house in Kampung Brunei, Membakut, early Tuesday morning.
The infant was left with a towel, several kaffir limes, and a handwritten note saying:
"My child is in this box. Please take care of her. May you be blessed with sustenance."
Beaufort Police Chief Supt Wong Leong Meng said a resident reported the discovery around 6.10am after noticing a suspicious white motorcycle earlier.
The baby was taken to Beaufort Hospital for further treatment and a paternity test.
Police are now tracing the mother. The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandonment, which carries up to seven years in jail, a fine, or both.
