Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes has jumped to the defense of his team this week.

The Brazilian was speaking after comments from PSG and France star Kylian Mbappe.

The forward, who scored a late penalty in a 1-1 draw between the teams on Tuesday, criticised Newcastle for being too defensive.

Look, I think they were better in the second half. In the first half we were very open, Isak also had a chance to score right at the start. Anyway, he's going to defend his side, I'm going to defend mine," Guimaraes told TNT Sports.

I think we stuck to what we had trained for, with all the absentees we had, we know that playing here is very difficult. Anyway, when we played at home, we scored four against them. We mustn't forget that either. I think we should have won today too."

"It's frustrating because we dominated this team from start to finish," Mbappe had told TNT Sports.

"They have nothing. We knew it was their game to have nothing but we have to finish our chances better.

We have too many chances for a Champions League match. It's not the structure or the organization, it's us the players. We need to be much more diligent in front of goal."
