Newcastle boss Eddie Howe insists there's been no approach from Manchester United for Dan Ashworth.
The Toon technical director is a 10m target for United.
But Howe said: "As we speak now, we have had no contact with anyone [from Manchester United]. It's quite an unusual situation. Whatever happens, we want a quick resolution. I think it's a difficult one when you are in the role you need longevity to see the fruits of your labour, the people that have done it the best, have the longevity.
"Dan has had a relatively short time here. We will see what happens, as of yet nothing has happened.
"Football always moves on quickly. I'll say that regarding the manager's position, football will continue to work in an efficient way. We would carry on very smoothly.
"I think there has to be a succession plan for everybody, players, managers, there is a strategy from the board above."
