Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has responded to fresh calls to add Tino Livramento to his team.

The young full-back has needed to play second fiddle to Dan Burn for much of the season.

However, Howe has faith in Burn, but did insist that he picks teams on merit and not past displays.

Howe told Chronicle Live ahead of a game against Arsenal on Saturday: "There is a lot more than goes into than just that (swapping over) from my perspective in terms of choosing the team.

Tactically it has an impact, lots of other areas of the game are impacted.

"But also I am looking at how the players train, I am looking at what they do during the week to prove they can start. Left-back is an interesting area of the pitch.

"But I have more decisions than that to make. I have decisions in every position bar midfield at the moment. It is great to see that competition return."
