Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has urged calm after defeat at Liverpool on Monday night.

Howe is eager to keep up morale with an FA Cup Third Round tie with Sunderland next.

"The players are human beings naturally we are not at our most confident levels currently," Howe said.

"I think we have to do everything we can to protect that confidence because it's such an important thing whenever you play.

"That's why I have said before we need to be, not overreactive, not overdramatise things currently. We have a huge game to come in the next few days and I think all of our energy and resources need to go into that."
